Parent volunteers are crucial for the success of SJA, especially at the home meets. Parents are asked to volunteer for one position per swimmer in their family. A fee of $50 per Family will be applied at registration for parents who opt-out of volunteering. SJA encourages you to be a part of our swim meets.
Volunteer Positions:
| Home Meets |
|
| Set-up |
Set up the pool and hallway space prior to the arrival of swim families. |
| Concession Stand |
Multiple roles are needed for the concession stand. Food and drink donations from swim team families must be coordinated. Volunteers are also needed to work in the concession stand during the meet. Clean-up volunteers are also needed. |
| Announcer |
Announce the events during the swim meet. |
| Official |
The official is responsible for the running of the meet and is the final authority on the interpretation and enforcement of all swimming rules. This position requires specific training. |
| Timing System / Computer |
Volunteers are needed to assist with running the swim meet software. Some training may be needed. |
| Marshalling |
Multiple volunteers are needed to line up swimmers, especially young swimmers, prior to their events. Responsibilities include verifying the names of swimmers in each event and assigning lanes to the swimmers. This is a crucial job to keep the meet running smoothly and on time. |
| Admission Table |
Check in all swimmers before the meet begins and collect admission fees from Parents. |
| Timer |
Two timers are needed for each of the 6 lanes at the pool as well as a few back-up timers. Timers use stopwatches to time each swimming event in their lane and record the times on provided sheets. |
| Clean-Up |
Clean-up the pool and hall area after the meet. |
| Ribbons |
Label the ribbons using preprinted stickers and file in each swimmer's folder. |
| Build the Team |
|
| Fundraising |
Multiple volunteers are recommended to identify and execute fundraising opportunities. |
| Swim-A-Thon |
Swim-A-Thon is the primary fundraiser for SJA. Swimmers solicit donations based on the number of laps they swim during the Swim-A-thon. During the Swim-A-Thon, volunteers are needed to count the number of laps each swimmer completes. Food, refreshments, and small prizes must be coordinated for the swimmers. |
| Bookkeeping / Accounting |
Assist the treasurer with bookkeeping and/or accounting activities. QuickBooks experience is desired. |
| Board Member |
Serve with 6 other parents to manage the business end of SJA. We currently have one opening and there will be 2-3 openings this spring. |
